Treat Your Members With Respect

Posted on 18 May 2012

When I’m a registered member of an organisation, I don’t like it when the home page of the organisation’s website gives a lot more priority to attracting new members than to serving existing members.

For example, the home page of CouchSurfing devotes a HUGE amount of space to enabling non-members to sign up, but only a tiny, almost invisible login box for existing members. Members have to click that link and go to another page to input their login details.

Please, if you have a membership site, treat your existing members with the respect they deserve – after all, they’ve already decided they like you. So make it easy for them to login directly on the home page without having to click through to another page.
